TirolCamp Fieberbrunn is a luxury, resort style campsite, with first class winter camping facilities, a quality restaurant, pool, the option of your very own bathroom ‘shed’ and superb access to local ski lifts. All this comes at a premium price though and needs to be considered well in advance as the site gets booked up early. If you have friends and family who are not campers the site also has 4* apartments and double rooms to rent. A gate at the rear of the site leads to a 50m walk to the Fieberbrunn Lift station with ski hire, lockers, ski school lift pass office & is also the ski bus terminus. The Skicircus Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang & Fieberbrunn ski area is a massive 270kms linking right across four valleys into the Tirol and recently linking as far as to Zell am See. There is a pleasant walk from the campsite along the riverside to Fieberbrunn village where there are a number of good coffee shops and restaurants.

How to get to Tirol Camp Fieberbrunn

There are two options for your journey to  Tirol Camp Fieberbrunn. The most direct from Calais at 670 miles is via Luxembourg on the E25, the A13 & A8 in Germany to Munich and onto the A93 to the border at Kufstein. Leave the A12 (toll free sections again in 2021/22) at Junction 6 Kufstein south and take the 173 & 178 to Sankt Johann. From there take the 164 bypassing Fieberbrunn until you pass the Billa supermarket. take the next right into Lindau.

Note: The access road from Lindau to the reception is steep and prone to snow and icing in winter. If weather conditions are poor, it pays to check for any waiting vehicles on the road and whether chains are required before attempting the final approach

For caravans: The better route will be to miss out Luxembourg and head for Koln, Wurzburg, and the A3 then A9 past Nuremberg to Munich, which will miss out some long tortuous hills. From Munich follow A99/A8 to Kufstein and then as above. Mileage on this route is around 700 miles.

Skicircus – Saalbach, Leogang, Hinterglemm & Fieberbrunn – What is the skiing like in Fieberbrunn?

Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn ski resort is one of the largest lift interlinked ski areas  in Austria, offering over 270kms of piste and arguably some of the best freeride terrain in the Alps. There are a wide variety of slopes available which should suit all levels of skiers and boarders, with a lot of off piste opportunities for advanced skiers. There is also much to interest non-skiers with snowshoeing and marked walking trails available. For langlauf skiers there are almost 40kms of prepared trail from Fieberbrunn alone, which is accessible from the Tirol Camp site. The whole area has a very relaxed feel with much to recommend it to families and solo skiers alike. Full details are available from Fieberbrunn Tourism.

For those with more than a couple of weeks to spare here, or even a whole season, there are a variety of additional ski passes and areas to visit. The Kitzbuheler All Star pass and the Salzburger Superski pass increase coverage to up to 22 Austrian resorts and are keenly priced if purchased in early December. Check out Superski pass for full details.

Winterised Tips

  • Top up with water on your way in before the barrier as on pitch taps are turned off in winter
  • Piped gas. The site provide the connection pipe which is designed to link to the end of your regulator hose. If you are carrying Calor bullet nose fittings this will not work. The site can connect directly to your regulator or to a german style adapter. It is worth a call/email with your booking to clarify arrangements. Some spare O ring washers are worth carrying just in case they are needed when you reconnect to your cylinder at the end of your stay.
  • If the price of a shed is a little daunting, the showers and washrooms are of 4* standard anyway
  • Catch the train down to St Johann using the travel pass that comes with your booking.

Pros

  • Ski in almost possible in good conditions
  • Deposits and all payments accepted by credit card
  • Pitches suitable for awnings
  • Superb facilities
  • Ideal for families
  • Ski school at nearby lift station

Cons

  • Expensive for dog owners at €8 per day
  • Designated dog walk can be snowbound and unusable in heavy snow conditions
  • Dog exercise ‘off’ lead tricky with local rules very strict
  • If you don’t need all the whistles and bells here, it’s an expensive stay
  • Access can be tricky if weather conditions are poor
  • Some pitches can get very muddy with site generally prone to icing during late season conditions
